Okay, so this is a film about a young woman (Isabella) who goes to Italy to try and clear the name of her mother (Maria) who has been locked up in a mental hospital for murdering three people when her daughter was 8 years old. The murders occurred during an exorcism in the family home. Now 25, Isabella and her cameraman Michael solicit the help pf two priests (Ben and David) who admit to performing exorcisms against the Church's rules. It is a docufilm (meaning it is shot documentary-style), but I can say that I hated it much less than The Blair Witch Project. I mean A LOT less. If you liked Paranormal Activity (either the first one or the 75th), you will likely love this film. Because it was supposed to be a documentary, I will say the acting was superb. When it comes to freak-out factor, on a scale of 1-10, the film is about a 4.
Maria Rossi has never been proven to be a real person. However, there are some who claim to have proof of her existence. It is alleged that she murdered the individuals in her home as well as the elderly next door neighbor. It is said that she did not make the 911 call depicted in the film but was caught the next day after standing outside her home and singing "We killed Edna" repeatedly. Whether real or not, she and The Devil Inside have caused quite a stir amongst some movie-goers. This is a story that may have been better in the pages of a novel than on the big screen. Putting the acting, the freak out factor and the cinematography together overall, I was unmoved and almost requested a refund.
If you are looking to see swearing priests and generally some of the strangest shit you have ever seen in your life, go see this film. But, if you're looking for a movie with a happy ending, or even an ending at all, save your money.
